New Information Theoretic methods for Intelligent Data Analysis (IT-IDA)

The IT-IDA Project

The goal of the IT-IDA project is to develop new machine learning algorithms for intelligent data analysis, such as robust non-linear clustering and classification techniques, based on recently developed concepts in information theory, Mercer kernel theory and graph spectral theory. There will be emphasis on remote sensing applications.

Project Organization

The project is a part of the research activity at the Electrical Engineering Group at the Department of Physics, University of Tromso, Norway. There are project partners at the University of Florida, USA, Fraunhofer First, Germany, the Oregon Graduate Institute, OHSU, USA and Norut IT, Norway. There is also collaboration with researchers at the University of Glasgow, Scotland. The project leader is Robert Jenssen.

The project is funded for the period 2006 to 2009 by the norwegian research council.
